Common domain issues and what to do to FIX them
There are several uses for domain names, forwarding, parking and hosting to name a few. Once you buy a domain name you then decide how to use it. But what happens is everything doesn't go as planned?
When you forward a domain name you point it to another domain name. You wait 24 hour for propagation, yes I recommend waiting the full 24 hours, and you find that your domain forwarding is not working. Where to start? Well, I would start by checking to make sure the domain name is pointed to the correct URL. I know is sounds simple, but a little typo can have a drastic effect. If the forwarded URL is spelled correctly, them move to making sure you are on your domain companies forwarding IP and name servers. If you have double check all of those things and the forwarding is still not working, I recommend calling your domain provider.
Domain hosting is used if you want to upload your own website to your host companies server. So you purchased hosting and a domain name, set up the hosting and are ready to upload your site. You go to FTP but the hosting isn't responding. What's next? Once again, make sure it has been at least 24 hours, that maddening propagation time. If it is still not connecting, check to make sure you are on your hosting company's correct name servers and IP address. If all is correct and FTP still wont connect, contact your hosting company.
Domain issues are easy to asses and easier to fix. Don't be afraid to "get you hands dirty" and try to fix them yourself. Anything that can be done can be undone. If all else failed call your domain/hosting company. If your domain/hosting company does not have 24 hour support via phone, I recommend finding a new provider.
